Jharsuguda, Odisha : Jharsuguda Police arrest three armed extortion accused near Panchpada Chowk on SH-10 during a targeted Operation Netra patrol. SI P. Parida led the operation to prevent threats against truck drivers and local businesses.
During the evening patrolling on 16 September, SI P. Parida received credible information from a source that a group of individuals armed with pistols were creating chaos near Bhai Bhai Dhaba, close to Panchpada Chowk. The suspects were reportedly intimidating local hotel owners and truck drivers, extorting money at gunpoint, and obstructing vehicles on SH-10. Acting on this intelligence, SI Parida, along with PS staff and two independent witnesses, rushed to the spot and apprehended the accused.
The Jharsuguda Police seized several items from the possession of the accused, including a country-made pistol, three live ammunition rounds, two mobile phones, a Hero motorbike without a number plate, and cash totaling Rs. 4,680. The officers ensured all formalities of search and seizure were properly observed at the scene.
The police registered Jharsuguda PS Case No-431 dated 17.09.25 under Sections 296/132/351(3)/308(4) BNS R/w-25(1) (a) / 25(6) of the Arms Act. The accused, identified as
- Munnu Pandey (25) S/o Guptewar Pandey of Chakia , Chochakpur PS-Karanda, Dist – Gazipur (Uttar Pradesh) A/p-Cox colony, PS-Sadar, Dist-Jharsuguda.
- Abhinandan Pandey (19) S/o Akhilesh Pandey of Chakia, Chochakpur PS-Karanda, Dist – Gazipur ( Uttar Pradesh).
- Kamelesh Sha (20) S/o Siba Bihari Sha of Dabling colony, coolypada, Ps-GRPS, Dist- Jharsuguda.
All three Accused are in custody. Authorities confirmed that the accused will be produced in the Hon’ble Court for further legal proceedings.
“This operation demonstrates our commitment to maintaining law and order and protecting citizens from armed threats,” said a senior police official. “We remain vigilant against antisocial elements targeting the community and trucking operations on SH-10.”
The Jharsuguda Police continue their investigation into the case to identify any accomplices and prevent further criminal activities. The Operation Netra patrols remain active, ensuring the safety of local businesses, truck operators, and residents in the district.
Residents praised the swift action, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in reporting suspicious activities. The authorities urged citizens to continue providing timely information to help police maintain security and deter crime.
