Jharsuguda, Odisha : The Additional Sessions Judge of the POCSO Court, Jharsuguda, has sentenced a man to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 for sexually assaulting a visually impaired minor girl. The case was concluded in a record 99 days, showcasing the swift and efficient investigation of Jharsuguda Police.
On May 2, 2025, the victim visited the accused’s house to watch television. Finding her alone while his family was asleep, the accused committed the crime and threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident. The minor later informed her family, and her father lodged a complaint at Rengali Police Station.
The case was registered as Rengali P.S. Case No. 105. The accused was arrested on May 8, and the charge sheet was filed within 26 days — on May 28.
Police used advanced forensic tools, including DNA analysis, to strengthen the case. The evidence, combined with the testimonies of the victim and witnesses, led to the conviction under Section 64(2)(k) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
The court also directed payment of ₹10.5 lakh to the victim under the compensation scheme.
The investigation was led by OIC Samrendra Nayak under the supervision of SP Smith P. Parmar, with Public Prosecutor P.R. Singh Deo handling the trial.
This case stands as a testament to Odisha Police’s commitment to delivering justice to the most vulnerable, ensuring that crimes against children are met with zero tolerance and speedy legal action.
