Jharsuguda, Odisha : Tension gripped Jharsuguda Railway Colony in the early hours of Sunday after unidentified miscreants opened fire at a government residential quarter. More than six rounds of bullets were fired at the official residence of Dasharath Suna, sparking panic among locals.

According to reports, the incident took place around 2.30 AM, when two armed assailants arrived near Suna’s quarter and fired multiple rounds before fleeing the spot. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported, though family members had a narrow escape.

Cause of Firing Linked to Ganesh Puja Dispute :

Preliminary investigation suggests that the firing was an outcome of a clash between two groups during the Ganesh Puja idol immersion procession on Saturday night. A heated argument reportedly broke out at Doubling Colony in Jharsuguda Railway area, which later escalated into the firing incident.

Railway DSP Ramesh Chandra Das confirmed that the dispute during Ganesh Puja immersion was the primary trigger behind the attack.

Police Investigation Underway :

Soon after the incident, teams from Government Railway Police (GRP) rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. Bullet shells were recovered from the site, and raids are being carried out to trace the attackers.

DSP Das assured that strict action will be taken, and efforts are underway to nab the culprits. “The firing has created panic in the locality, but no one has been harmed. Police are on high alert, and search operations are in progress,” he said.
