Jharsuguda , Odisha : Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra commenced his two-day official visit to Jharsuguda today by laying the foundation stones for a series of critical development projects collectively worth over ₹17 crore. The initiative, aimed at modernizing the city’s infrastructure and enhancing civic amenities, marks a significant step in Jharsuguda’s transformation into a sustainable and citizen-friendly urban center.
The ambitious projects encompass a diverse array of urban infrastructure and community development initiatives. Among the key projects inaugurated today are:

Beautification of Jhadeswar Temple – ₹2 crore

Construction of Jhadeswar Temple Pilgrim Shelter – ₹20 lakh

Renovation of Jhadeswar Temple Pond – ₹20 lakh

Hatlipada Market Complex – ₹4 crore

Sarbahal School Walking Track – ₹40 lakh

Sunari Munda Meat Market – ₹80 lakh

New Municipality Office at BTM – ₹5 crore

Streetlighting from SP Office Square to Bandhapada Road – ₹42 lakh

Cattle Shelter at Mali Munda – ₹4 crore
Speaking at the event, Minister Mohapatra emphasized that these projects are designed to directly benefit the residents, improve public amenities, and accelerate the city’s transformation into a modern, sustainable urban hub. “We are committed to ensuring that Jharsuguda emerges as one of the most developed cities in Odisha. Every necessary resource will be mobilized to achieve this goal,” he stated.
Jharsuguda MLA Tankadhar Tripathy underscored the significance of the initiatives, saying that they will provide a major impetus to the city’s growth and infrastructure development. He added that efforts are underway to upgrade Jharsuguda Municipality into a Municipal Corporation, a move expected to strengthen governance and enhance civic services. Minister Mohapatra confirmed that the District Collector has been instructed to initiate the process, and if Jharsuguda fulfills the required criteria, it will soon be officially declared a Municipal Corporation.
The foundation stone-laying ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including MLA Tankadhar Tripathy, District Collector Kunal Motiram Chavan, Municipal Executive Officer Manas Ranjan Mallik, Chairperson Rani Hati, Deputy Chairperson Benu Gopal Panigrahi, along with several local leaders, party workers, and citizens.
With ten projects now officially initiated, work is expected to commence shortly. These developments promise to pave the way for a greener, smarter, and more people-centric Jharsuguda, fulfilling the aspirations of its residents while setting a benchmark for urban development in the region.
