Jharsuguda, Odisha: In a major crackdown on the drug trade, the Sadar police arrested four accused. This was with the seizure of illegal brown sugar, informed Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police Guadala Reddy Raghavendra during a press conference.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Kalyani Kolet (21) and Aarti Suna (47) of Kabrasthan Pada under Sadar police station. Also, Halima Begum (45) of Telibhatta, and S.K. Altaf (22).

According to the SP, the Jharsuguda police have been conducting continuous operations against drugs, illegal weapons, and crimes related to women’s safety. In another successful operation today, they managed to bust a brown sugar racket. They followed a reliable tip-off about illegal drug sales in the Kabrasthan Pada area.
Acting swiftly on the information, SP Raghavendra formed a special team. It comprised SDPO Uma Shankar Singh, Sadar Police Station Officer Swapnarani Gochayat, and other officials. Around 5:30 a.m., the team conducted a surprise raid on a shop near the Hanuman Temple in Kabrasthan Pada.
During the raid, police seized 9.60 grams of brown sugar, a paper packet used for packing the substance. Also, two mobile phones and ₹7,470 in cash were seized.
Jharsuguda, known as an industrially vibrant district, has witnessed a steady rise in population over the years. Taking advantage of this growth, some anti-social elements have started expanding their illegal activities.
However, the police administration has taken strong action to curb these crimes. In recent months, the Jharsuguda Police have seized several illegal firearms and arrested multiple accused involved in such rackets.
Superintendent of Police Guadala Reddy Raghavendra stated that the administration is fully committed to making Jharsuguda a crime-free district and ensuring safety and peace for all residents.
