Jharsuguda, Odisha: Jharsuguda Airport Police arrested two youths of Talpatia, Shubham G. (24) and Abhishek Singh (26), for running an extortion racket targeting truck drivers near Durlaga Chowk on State Highway 10. During a routine night patrol, officers received a tip-off that two men were threatening truck drivers with a knife and demanding cash. Acting immediately, the police rushed to the spot and caught the duo red-handed while they tried to extort money.
The police recovered ₹1,500 in cash, a knife (bhujali) used in the crime, and a motorbike that the suspects used for their operation. Investigators questioned both accused, who confessed to their involvement in similar extortion attempts across the area.
After registering a case, the police took the accused to court the same day. Officials said the Jharsuguda Police remain determined to crush such criminal networks and keep the highways safe for transporters and residents alike.
Residents praised the quick action of the police, saying that their prompt response helps deter organized crime and boosts public confidence in law enforcement.
