Jerusalem : Gunmen opened fire at the Ramot Junction in Jerusalem on Monday, killing at least five people, local media reported. Magen David Adom (MDA) said four victims died at the scene, and the fifth succumbed to injuries at a nearby hospital.
Emergency responders treated seven others in serious condition, two in moderate condition, and three with minor injuries.
Two attackers fired on civilians before a soldier and a young armed Haredi man neutralized them, according to The Times of Israel, citing Channel 12. Police confirmed that a security officer and a civilian shot the terrorists, stopping further attacks.
Deputy police chief Avshalom Peled arrived at the scene with a large police force. Police sappers inspected the area for explosives. Authorities secured the junction and urged calm among local residents.
Following the attack, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a security assessment with top security officials. Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren Haskel condemned the attack, saying, “A tragic morning in Jerusalem: two terrorists boarded a bus on route 62 and opened fire on passengers and bystanders. Many were murdered and others severely injured.” She extended condolences to the victims’ families and reaffirmed that Israel would remain united against those threatening its citizens.
A woman who witnessed the attack on the bus described her ordeal: “…The moment (the driver) opened the door… terrorists came. I was by the back door, I fell on everyone and escaped. I saved myself.” She hid under a nearby vehicle until security personnel neutralized the attackers. “There was gunfire beyond anything imaginable. I can’t believe I’m standing here,” she added.
The Ramot Junction attack shocked Israel, prompting heightened security measures. Authorities continue investigating the incident, helping the injured, and ensuring public safety.
This attack highlights ongoing tensions in the region and the need for vigilance. Israeli officials urged citizens to remain calm while they implement measures to prevent further attacks.
