Mumbai : Janhvi Kapoor’s Homebound for Oscars has filled the actress with joy as the film becomes India’s official entry for the 2026 Academy Awards.
Calling the milestone “nothing short of a dream,” Janhvi expressed gratitude for being part of the project. On Instagram, she shared the film’s poster and wrote: “Every part of this film has been nothing short of a dream. The journey, the people, what this story means, and how personal it’s been for everyone in our team. At every step I have been thankful I could witness this journey, which in my mind was truly the reward in itself.”
She added, “Everything since has been a celebration of all these people that I love and respect so much, for their talent, their goodness, and their courage. @neeraj.ghaywan @karanjohar @vishaljethwa06 @ishaankhatter — this movie, and even its journey, has been about hope in more ways than one would expect. See you in cinemas on the 26th of September :).”
Filmmaker Karan Johar said, “We feel deeply honoured and humbled that Homebound represents India as the official Oscar entry. Neeraj Ghaywan’s labour of love will surely find a home in a million hearts across the world.”
Director Neeraj Ghaywan echoed the sentiment: “I feel truly honoured that Homebound will represent India at the Oscars. Rooted in love for our land and people, it carries the essence of the home we all share. Taking our stories to the world and standing for India at one of cinema’s biggest global stages fills me with pride and gratitude.”
Backed by Dharma Productions, Homebound also stars Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa. It will release in theatres on September 26, 2025, and compete in the Best International Feature Film category at the 2026 Oscars.
