New Delhi: With Pakistan struggling to push terrorists across the border, the ISI bets on propaganda to reignite J&K unrest. The ISI has turned to disinformation to spark unrest in Jammu and Kashmir. After Operation Sindoor, Indian security forces strengthened border surveillance, bringing infiltration almost to zero.
Intelligence officials say the ISI is now launching a large-scale propaganda campaign targeting Kashmiri youth. Its aim is to stir communal tension, revive anti-India sentiments, and reopen debates around the abrogation of Article 370.
The agency has used similar tactics before. During the Citizenship Amendment Act protests, ISI operatives spread fake online content to incite violence. Now, it plans to use the same digital playbook to spread lies, provoke anger, and push locals toward militancy.
As Indian forces continue to foil infiltration attempts in Uri, Kupwara, and Poonch, Pakistan is trying to build homegrown terror groups. By recruiting locals, it hopes to project the Kashmir conflict as an internal uprising rather than cross-border terrorism.
Pakistan’s frustration has grown with the collapse of outfits like Hizbul Mujahideen and The Resistance Front. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir’s peace, tourism, and business growth have weakened separatist influence. Facing internal instability from the TTP and Baloch insurgents, Islamabad sees chaos in Kashmir as a diversion from its domestic troubles.
A senior security official said, “Pakistan’s propaganda war shows desperation. It wants to ignite a fire that the people of Kashmir have already chosen to leave behind.”
