New Delhi : India is poised to witness the next leap in modern rail travel with the upcoming Vande Bharat Sleeper Train, set to roll out in September 2025, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced during a program in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, on Sunday. This marks a new chapter following the successful launches of Vande Bharat, Namo Bharat, and Amrit Bharat trains.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper coaches are being manufactured by BEML’s Integral Coach Factory, purpose-built to cater to long-distance overnight journeys. The train will feature 16 coaches, including AC First Class, AC 2-Tier, and AC 3-Tier compartments, offering seating for 1,128 passengers.
Designed for speed and comfort, the train boasts a maximum speed of 180 km/h. Passenger-friendly features include reading lights, USB charging points at every berth, CCTV surveillance, digital information panels, public announcement systems, and visual display boards. Special provisions such as dedicated berths and toilets for differently-abled passengers will also be available.
Though the exact route has not yet been disclosed, speculation suggests the train might serve a high-demand long-distance corridor. Additionally, Minister Vaishnaw hinted at the early launch of the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Bullet Train, reinforcing the government’s push for high-speed rail infrastructure.
