Bhubaneswar, Odisha : Odisha Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari has reiterated the state government’s support for the establishment of a permanent High Court bench, emphasizing the need for a coordinated proposal from concerned stakeholders, particularly Bar Associations.
Speaking on the long-standing demand for regional benches in Western and Southern Odisha, Pujari stated, “We have always supported the demand for a High Court bench to ensure accessible justice for all. The decision on the location should be taken through internal discussions among lawyers’ associations.”
He also highlighted that several states have been making similar demands, but Odisha is yet to send a unified proposal to the Central Government. “There has been no consolidated proposal sent to the Centre so far. Discussions are ongoing with the Bar Associations, and a cohesive recommendation is essential,” he added.
Pujari referred to the Jaswant Singh Commission, which laid down the parameters for establishing High Court benches. “We must adhere to these guidelines. The final decision rests on the collective resolve of the legal fraternity and coordination with the state government.”
Assuring readiness, the Minister emphasized that the state government is fully prepared with infrastructure and logistical arrangements required for setting up the bench.
“We are committed to judicial decentralization and are prepared to support the establishment of a bench wherever it is decided,” said Minister Pujari.
