Bhubaneswar, Odisha: The low-pressure area that formed over the west-central Bay of Bengal yesterday, adjoining south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts, remained active on Thursday. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, the system is expected to move northwestwards in the next 24 hours, crossing south Odisha and north coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Under its influence, widespread rainfall is likely across Odisha till August 18. Heavy showers are forecast tomorrow in Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Nabarangpur districts. Coastal Odisha and parts of southern districts may experience thunderstorms with lightning, prompting the Met department to issue a Yellow Warning.
From August 16 onwards, rainfall activity will intensify over southern Odisha, with heavy downpour predicted in Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Ganjam, and Kandhamal districts. Moderate rain is also likely over the rest of the state.
Meanwhile, the sea along the Odisha coast is expected to remain rough, and fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into deep waters until the weather improves.
Authorities continue to monitor the system closely and advise residents to stay updated with official weather alerts.
