₹60 Crore Sanctioned for Road Repairs, ₹3 Crore for Embankment Restoration
Jharsuguda : Heavy monsoon rains have caused widespread destruction across Jharsuguda district, with major damage reported in Laikera and Kirmira blocks, as well as parts of the Jharsuguda Municipality. Roads have been washed away, farmlands inundated, and embankments breached, prompting swift government response.
MLA Tankadhar Tripathy, addressing the media, stated that the state government is highly sensitive to the plight of affected farmers and the public. “The Mohan government is a government of the people, and all necessary steps will be taken to ensure prompt compensation and infrastructure restoration,” he affirmed.
As per preliminary damage assessment reports, approximately ₹60 crore has already been sanctioned to the Works and Rural Development Departments for urgent road repairs across the district. Additionally, ₹3 crore has been approved for the repair of breached embankments in various regions.
The MLA informed that many agricultural lands have been damaged due to sand deposition, particularly near areas where the NH-49 bypass construction led to water overflow and erosion. Several ponds and farmlands have been filled with sand. The district administration has been directed to carry out detailed damage assessments and ensure proper compensation is provided to the affected farmers.
Furthermore, Tripathy assured that the National Highway authorities will also compensate for the damages incurred by farmers due to highway construction. The sand will be cleared from the affected farmlands to restore agricultural usability.
Regarding the construction of NH-49, the MLA emphasized that it is being built for the benefit of the common people and strictly under legal protocols. “If anyone is found involved in any irregularities, strict action will be taken,” Tripathy warned.
The district administration continues to assess the overall damage. The Minister of Works has also directed National Highway authorities and executive engineers to expedite compensation and repair processes. A magistrate-level officer has been deployed to assess the loss in sand-covered farmlands.
MLA Tripathy concluded by thanking Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and the Works Department Minister for their swift action and support in this crisis.
