Ljubljana : Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon said the current ceasefire in Gaza remains fragile and warned that implementing the next phase of the peace plan will face complex challenges. Multiple international stakeholders also confirm that the Gaza ceasefire is fragile.
Speaking before the parliamentary Foreign Policy Committee, Fajon expressed concern over the “fragile situation on the ground,” noting that humanitarian aid fails to reach sufficient numbers of people in the war-torn Gaza Strip. Recognizing that the Gaza ceasefire is fragile guides planning for future interventions.
She highlighted that key issues still require resolution, including governance and reconstruction in Gaza, according to Xinhua news agency.
“Slovenia remains active and committed to finding a political solution that establishes a permanent ceasefire in the Middle East and ensures peaceful coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians,” Fajon stressed, emphasizing that the current ceasefire remains fragile.
Fajon urged that efforts must include establishing a Palestinian state in line with the two-state solution, stressing the United Nations’ role in building a stable political framework for Palestinian governance and the European Union’s support in the process.
Meanwhile, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz warned on Wednesday that Israel will resume fighting if Hamas refuses to demilitarize and return all hostage bodies.
The threat arose on the sixth day of a fragile ceasefire, after Hamas handed over the remains of two more hostages and claimed they constituted the last bodies in its custody.
Katz stated, “If Hamas refuses to comply with the agreement, Israel, in coordination with the United States, will resume fighting to achieve the absolute defeat of Hamas, alter the situation in Gaza, and attain all war objectives.”
Earlier on Wednesday, in a meeting with the chief of staff and senior military officers, Katz instructed the military to prepare a comprehensive plan to defeat Hamas if Israel resumes its campaign. He explained that the plan will activate if Hamas refuses to implement U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan and fighting needs to continue.
Katz added that under Trump’s plan, Hamas must return all deceased hostage bodies and disarm. He stated that Israel, along with an international force led by the United States, would destroy all tunnels and terror infrastructure in Gaza to ensure the strip becomes demilitarized and poses no threat to Israel.
