Gaja Laxmi festival is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth, fortune, and prosperity. People believe that worshipping her during this time brings happiness, good luck, and success to their homes and families. Devotees decorate their houses and temples with lights, flowers, and colorful rangoli designs. They also make special offerings of sweets, fruits, and flowers to the goddess. Priests and devotees chant sacred mantras and perform rituals to please Goddess Lakshmi.
📌DHENKANAL GAJALXMI PUJA :
The Gaja Laxmi Puja in Dhenkanal began in 1923 with leaves and petronex lamps. It was initiated for the first time by late Brajakishore Pattnaik, Natabar Debata, Gatikrushna Pattnaik and a few others at Kunja Sahoo Chhak (Now Ganesh Bazar). During the festival, the entire Dhenkanal town is decorated with puja mandaps and electrical lighting. Beautifully decorated idols of Goddess Gajalaxmi are installed in pandals, attracting large crowds. On the occasion of Laxmi puja, the district administration organizes “Palishee Mela” with the support of other government agencies. Moreover, the cultural programs, music, and traditional dances organized on the occasion add glamour and charm to the festival. They also add a spiritual atmosphere to the celebrations.
