Bhubaneswar, Odisha: Odisha Vigilance achieved another success in its fight against corruption. This occurred after Former Angul Revenue Inspector (RI) Gunanidhi Nayak was convicted in a bribery case by the Special Vigilance Court, Angul.
Nayak, who earlier served at Kumurisinga Circle under Angul Tahasil, demanded and accepted a bribe from a complainant. The bribe was to send a verification report related to a land mutation case. The Vigilance officials caught him red-handed and later filed a chargesheet under Sections 13(2), 13(1)(d), and 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The court sentenced Nayak to two years of rigorous imprisonment and also imposed a fine. The verdict reaffirmed the state’s zero-tolerance policy toward corruption.
Odisha Vigilance has now decided to recommend the stoppage of Nayak’s pension, following his conviction. This move aims to ensure that convicted officials do not continue to benefit from government privileges.
