Srinagar: The first snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir brought a refreshing change after a long dry spell, as rain soaked the plains and snow blanketed the mountains on Wednesday.
Popular hill stations like Gulmarg, Sonamarg, and Pir Ki Gali turned into white wonderlands, while Sinthan Pass and Sadhna Top recorded up to six inches of snow. The Meteorological Department said the weather is expected to clear soon, with dry conditions likely for the next 10 days.
Residents have pulled out woollens and traditional Pherans as chilly winds sweep through the Valley. The first snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir has also dropped night temperatures, marking the early onset of winter.
Snowfall at Zojila Pass disrupted traffic on the Srinagar-Leh highway, prompting officials to suspend movement for safety. Health experts advised people especially children and older adults to stay warm and avoid direct exposure to cold air to reduce the risk of chest infections.
Meanwhile, winter tourism is picking up pace. Snow-covered destinations like Gulmarg, Sonamarg, and Pahalgam are attracting visitors eager to enjoy skiing, snow walks, and cozy stays in heated hotels.
As Kashmir prepares for the winter chill, its warm hospitality continues to draw tourists seeking peace, adventure, and breathtaking snowy landscapes.
