Jaipur: A massive fire at a Rajasthan resort near the world-famous Sam Sand Dunes erupted late Thursday night, turning several luxury tents into ashes within minutes. Strong desert winds fueled the blaze, but resort staff acted swiftly, rescuing all tourists without any injuries.
Several domestic and foreign guests were staying at the resort when the fire broke out. The staff immediately raised the alarm and guided everyone to safety, preventing a major tragedy.
Police officers from Sam Station rushed to the scene as soon as they received the report. They joined local residents and resort employees to battle the flames for over an hour before bringing them under control.
Witnesses said fierce winds made it difficult to contain the fire as it spread across the camp. Locals used water tankers, sand, and available tools to stop the flames before the fire brigade arrived.
A cultural event was underway at the time, with tourists gathered in the open courtyard enjoying folk performances. Their presence outside the tents likely saved many lives.
The fire completely destroyed five tents and damaged a few others. Investigators suspect an electrical short circuit caused the blaze, but police have asked the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to confirm the exact reason.
Officials are assessing the total loss and plan to review fire safety standards in the region. The incident highlights the urgent need for stronger safety measures at the 150 resorts and desert camps that attract thousands of tourists to the Sam Sand Dunes every season.
