Bhubaneswar, Odisha : On the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day, Odisha Sports and Youth Services Minister, Shri Suryabanshi Suraj, emphasized that “every life is valuable” during the “Jeevan Zindabad” awareness program held at Kalinga Stadium. The event aimed to promote positive mental health, discourage suicidal tendencies, and encourage people to approach life’s challenges with resilience.
Minister Suraj urged citizens to support those facing emotional distress, and cultivate a positive mindset not only for themselves but also for the wellbeing of people around them. He said, “Today, we pledge to act as life guardians for one another and create a society free from suicide.”
Organized jointly by the Odisha Sports & Youth Services Department, Odisha Police, and Naman Foundation, the state-level awareness program featured students from Sangeet Natak Mahavidyalaya performing short plays and dance-dramas titled “Jeevan Zindabad” and “Do Not Commit Suicide”. The event also showcased the theme song “Jeevan Zindabad”, composed by eminent musician Prem Anand.
The program included oath-taking and interactive sessions, where Minister Suraj addressed participants’ questions and shared insights on overcoming life challenges. Para-athlete Kamala Kant Nayak also participated, highlighting his journey of resilience and success despite personal struggles.
Key dignitaries present included Chief Secretary Shri Manoj Ahuja, Director General of Police Shri Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, Police Commissioner Shri S. Devadatta Singh, Commissioner, Sports & Youth Services Shri Sachin Ramchandra Yadav, Director Dr. Yedula Vijay, and Odisha Hockey Promotion Council CEO Shri Deepankar Mahapatra.
The program successfully spread awareness on suicide prevention, encouraged community support, and reinforced the message that every life matters.
