Durg/Bhilai : The Enforcement Directorate (ED) intensified its probe into the alleged custom milling scam by raiding HUDCO Bhilai on Thursday. This action comes amid growing scrutiny of financial irregularities in the state’s food and civil supplies sector.
Early in the morning, a four-member ED team reached the premises around 6 a.m. and immediately began a detailed search. They also questioned key personnel throughout the day. According to officials, the team focused on land allotments, financial transactions, and contract records to uncover evidence of inflated bills, ghost mills, or forged documentation, which may have caused significant losses to the state exchequer.
Moreover, sources confirmed that this raid forms part of a broader, coordinated operation across Chhattisgarh. Simultaneously, teams are conducting searches in ten districts, demonstrating a sharp escalation in the investigation. Consequently, multiple government offices and private entities linked to custom milling contracts remain under scrutiny.
Local authorities reported that ED personnel restricted access around HUDCO premises and maintained strict confidentiality regarding the documents under review. Additionally, the agency continues to question involved individuals, and more summons are expected in the coming days.
This raid marks the second major ED operation in the Durg-Bhilai region within a month, reflecting the agency’s focused approach to tackling financial crimes in Chhattisgarh. Furthermore, security sources emphasised that authorities coordinated the raids carefully to ensure uninterrupted evidence collection.
A state source indicated that the timing and scale of these operations could influence upcoming administrative reviews and public trust in procurement processes. Therefore, officials said the raids also send a clear message that financial misconduct will face strict consequences.
In conclusion, authorities remain vigilant over activities related to the custom milling sector. Observers noted that these raids could become a turning point in curbing large-scale irregularities, thereby setting a precedent for stricter oversight and accountability in state contracts.
Ultimately, the ED’s continuous action underlines its commitment to tackling corruption and ensuring transparency in government operations, aiming to safeguard public resources and maintain confidence in state-run programs.
