Kolkata: The Election Commission of India (ECI) to act against 3rd parties distributing enumeration forms in Bengal SIR, as it has decided to take strict action against third parties during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in West Bengal. The move aims to curb unauthorized practices and protect the integrity of the voter verification process.
Officials from the Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) office said the ECI to strictly act against 3rd parties distributing enumeration forms in Bengal SIR after reports emerged from several districts. In one such case under the Daspur Assembly constituency in West Midnapore, booth-level officer (BLO) Rituparna Hajra allegedly allowed her husband, Asim Hajra a local Trinamool Congress leader to distribute forms on her behalf.
The CEO’s office immediately issued her a show-cause notice and warned that she would face disciplinary action if her explanation failed to satisfy officials. The Commission has also launched investigations into similar complaints from other districts.
ECI officials urged all BLOs to personally visit households for voter verification instead of asking voters to collect forms from a fixed spot. They stressed that any negligence or violation of guidelines would attract strict disciplinary measures.
The SIR process in West Bengal, which started on November 4, will continue till March next year. With Assembly elections scheduled soon, the ECI aims to ensure that every step of voter verification remains transparent, fair, and politically neutral.
By tightening monitoring and cracking down on irregularities, the Election Commission has sent a clear message: voter list integrity and public trust will remain top priorities in Bengal.
