Bhubaneswar, Odisha : Dr. Sanjukta Maharana’s research-based book, “Abolishing Child Labour and Pro-active Government Initiatives,” was launched at the Labour Commissioner’s office in Bhubaneswar. Moreover, the event highlighted the importance of realistic literature in addressing pressing social issues and inspiring meaningful change.

Prominent literary figure and social reformer Shri Dash Benhur released the book. He said realistic literature is more effective than fiction. Accordingly, it touches hearts, influences minds, and motivates action. “Child labour is a serious issue that robs children of education, dignity, and childhood. Therefore, books like this guide policymakers and society in combating it,” he added.

Shri Indramani Tripathi, Labour Commissioner of Odisha, joined as a guest. He emphasized the combined role of government and society in ending child labour. “The government is taking multiple steps, but society must act too. In addition, proactive policies, strict enforcement, social awareness, and family support are essential. Every child deserves to learn, play, and dream, not toil in hazardous conditions,” he said.

Former Joint Labour Commissioner Shri Pradeep Mohapatra called the book commendable. Similarly, Shri Samarendra Bhutia, OSD, SCSTRTI, explained that the research could strengthen Odisha’s labour policies and child protection initiatives.

Dr. Maharana shared her inspiration and experiences. She dedicated the book to her parents and thanked her mentor Dr. Ratnawali. Furthermore, she acknowledged colleagues and research assistants who supported her work. The program was moderated by Dr. Dwiti Chandra Sahu, with attendees including Dr. Paramanand Patel, Smt. Bishnupriya Sahu, and Talat Affrin.

The book serves as a comprehensive guide for policymakers, administrators, social workers, and volunteers. It combines research and practical recommendations to prevent child labour and protect children’s rights. Experts also noted that it can inspire citizens and officials to take concrete action.

By blending research with practical solutions, Dr. Maharana’s book is a milestone in social reform literature. Thus, it shows how awareness, policy, and community involvement can ensure a safe, healthy, and dignified childhood for every child.
