Bhubaneswar, Odisha : The Directorate of Higher Secondary Education (DHSE) commenced a five-day Capacity Building Workshop for Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) in English, appointed in non-government aided higher secondary schools, at the State Institute for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (SIRD&PR) today. The program, organized in collaboration with Azim Premji University, aims to enhance teaching and assessment skills among English educators. A total of 50 PGT teachers are participating in the training.
The inaugural session was attended by prominent officials, including Additional Secretary of the School and Mass Education Department, Smt. Subhashree Nanda, DHSE Director Smt. Niyati Patnaik, Joint Director Smt. Sasmita Mali, and Deputy Directors Smt. C.H. Vijayalakshmi and Shri Jitendra Nayak. Faculty members from Azim Premji University, Sri Partha Sarathi Mishra and Ms. Jenny Alex, were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Nanda emphasized the importance of empowering teachers under the new National Education Policy (NEP) framework. She highlighted that the workshop will help teachers refine their communication skills and act as ambassadors of effective teaching practices within their colleges and communities. “Teachers are the cornerstone of education. Empowering them ensures Odisha’s education system can set global standards,” she said, urging participants to focus on practical learning applications.
In her welcome address, Director Smt. Patnaik informed that all PGT teachers across Odisha would receive phased training. She expressed gratitude to Azim Premji University for their collaboration and support in strengthening teacher development. Smt. Vijayalakshmi coordinated the program, Shri Jitendra Nayak proposed the vote of thanks, and Smt. Sasmita Mali supervised the workshop arrangements.
The workshop is designed to strengthen teaching and assessment practices. Participants will deliberate on challenges in teaching English, language learning goals, curriculum objectives, skill-based communication activities, and critical pedagogy. Special focus will be placed on assessment techniques aligned with the National Curriculum Framework 2023, including question paper analysis and competency-based evaluation methods.
Through this initiative, DHSE aims to ensure that teachers are equipped with modern pedagogical skills, enabling them to foster a more interactive and competency-driven learning environment for students across Odisha.
