Bhubaneswar, Odisha : Today Deputy Chief Minister Prabhati Parida has issued a strong directive to all higher educational institutions across Odisha: establish an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in accordance with the POSH Act, or face salary suspension.
The Deputy CM emphasized that the state government is aiming to ensure ICC formation in every college within one month. Failure to comply will lead to withholding the salaries of responsible authorities, she warned.
“Each and every college must constitute an ICC. If not, we will not hesitate to stop the salary of the institution’s head,” Parida stated firmly.
This directive follows the recent Balasore incident, which has triggered widespread concern over the safety of women in educational institutions. The move has been largely welcomed by various stakeholders, recognizing it as a step toward ensuring a safe and secure environment for women staff and female students.
Additionally, Parida warned of strict legal consequences for individuals misusing the provisions of the POSH Act.
“Those filing false allegations will also face action under the POSH Act,” she asserted.
To deepen awareness, the government has initiated a POSH sensitization campaign, beginning at the Lok Seva Bhawan and soon to be extended to the block level across the state.
With this strong stance, the Odisha government is setting a clear example of zero tolerance toward harassment, while also discouraging misuse of protective laws.
