New Delhi : A Delhi police vehicle accident near the Ram Krishna Ashram Marg metro station left a man dead on Thursday, prompting an official investigation.
Delhi Police and the crime team are investigating the incident.
Authorities sent the body to a nearby hospital for a post-mortem. The accident occurred near Pillar 10, behind the Municipal Palace, close to the Mandir Marg Police Station.
Preliminary police reports indicate that the PCR van driver accidentally pressed the accelerator, mounted a roadside ramp, and hit the man, who died on the spot.
The accident caused panic, and locals rushed to the scene. Police teams arrived immediately, assessed the situation, and began inquiries.
Reports identified the deceased as Ganga Ram, who ran a tea stall. The incident happened around 5 a.m., and authorities allege that the involved police personnel were under the influence of alcohol.
Police said they will review CCTV footage for further details and continue their investigation.
This incident comes days after Union Ministry of Finance official Navjot Singh died in a road accident. Three people, including his wife, suffered injuries after a BMW hit his motorcycle near Delhi Cantonment metro station on Ring Road on Sunday, September 14.
Police arrested Gaganpreet Kaur, the BMW driver, from a hospital. They charged her with culpable homicide, destruction of evidence, and rash driving.
Navjot Singh, 52, served as a deputy secretary in the Finance Ministry. He and his wife, Sandeep Kaur, had visited Bangla Sahib Gurdwara and lunched at Karnataka Bhavan in RK Puram before the accident occurred on their way home.
