Talcher, Odisha : The DAV Public School, Anant Bihar, recently hosted the DAV Talcher Chess Competition at Chilika Kala Kendra, bringing together the brightest young minds from across the region. Moreover, the event featured cluster and zonal level competitions, sparking excitement among students and teachers alike.
The competition was inaugurated by Ashok Kumar Dhal Pradeep, General Manager of MCL Jagannath Area, who lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the beginning of this grand chess festival. In addition, notable guests included Akshay Kumar Dash, Project Officer of Anant OCP, L.K. Debata, Principal of DAV Public School, Jharsuguda, and Fakir Mohan Sahu, Headmaster of DAV Savitri Jindal High School.
Shubendu Shekhar Bosh, Principal of DAV Public School, Anant Bihar, welcomed the guests and introduced them to the judges and participants. Furthermore, the school’s Sports Instructor highlighted the significance of the event, emphasizing how chess cultivates critical thinking and strategic skills among students. Debashish Panigrahi from Bhubaneswar served as the chief judge for the competition.
The competition featured under-14, under-17, and under-19 categories for children. In total, 238 students from 31 schools across Odisha participated, showcasing incredible talent and competitive spirit. Meanwhile, teachers and staff from all schools collaborated to ensure the smooth conduct of the event, with Karunakar Sahu serving as the stage coordinator and Madhumita Chual Singh, Sports Instructor, offering heartfelt thanks to all participants and supporters.
The DAV Talcher Chess Competition not only provided a platform for children to test their skills but also fostered camaraderie, discipline, and a love for strategic games. As a result, the organizers and guests appreciated the enthusiasm of students and encouraged them to continue excelling in both academics and extracurricular activities.
