Talcher, Odisha: Cyclone Montha has battered several villages in Talcher, causing extensive damage to the paddy crops. It has destroyed vast stretches of paddy fields with relentless rain and strong winds. The cyclone hit just as farmers were preparing for harvest. Consequently, this has pushed many into financial uncertainty.
In Santhapada, farmers say the entire crop has been wiped out. Local Sarpanch Sahadev Sahu met Sub Collector Sameer Kumar Jena. He submitted a demand letter urging the administration to assess the damage quickly and provide fair compensation.
Sahu said that Cyclone Montha severely affected farmers’ livelihoods and demanded a transparent survey to ensure every affected farmer receives relief.
Villages like Kankili, Dharmapur, Gurujang, and Gurujanguli have suffered the worst damage. However, locals claim that the Block Agriculture Officer has not yet taken any action, angering many cultivators.
“We have lost an entire season’s effort,” said one farmer. “The government must act fast before our situation worsens.”
Farmers across Talcher now call for immediate government help, crop insurance support, and proper rehabilitation measures to recover from this natural disaster.
