New Delhi: The impact of Cyclone Montha is growing stronger across Bihar. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issues a heavy rainfall alert for several districts. The cyclone, which struck the Andhra Pradesh coast early Wednesday, now drives its outer rain bands toward northern India. Due to Cyclone Montha, Bihar faces increased risks, prompting urgent rainfall alert communications.
According to the latest IMD forecast, districts such as West Champaran, Kaimur, Banka, Rohtas, Gaya, Sheikhpura, and Nawada will receive moderate to heavy rainfall on Wednesday. As the system moves northward, it will also bring strong gusty winds and a sharp drop in temperatures across southern and western Bihar. This situation underscores the ongoing threat as Cyclone Montha’s Bihar rainfall alert continues for these regions.
The weather office urged farmers to stop harvesting and drying crops temporarily. It also asked residents to stay indoors, avoiding open areas and weak structures in light of the Cyclone Montha Bihar rainfall alert.
IMD Director General Dr. M. Mohapatra said the landfall of Cyclone Montha began early off the Andhra Pradesh coast. This occurred between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, near Kakinada district. He noted that the process would continue for about four hours. The storm moved north-northwest at around 15 kmph over the past six hours. It then intensified into a severe cyclonic storm around 5:30 a.m.
The Andhra Pradesh government ramped up its preparedness efforts. It evacuated nearly 76,000 people to relief camps across 22 districts. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) confirmed that officials set up 219 medical camps. They also deployed 81 wireless towers and 21 high-intensity lamps to maintain emergency communication.
The IMD also issued a ‘cyclone warning’ for the Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and South Odisha coasts, forecasting wind speeds of 92–117 kmph in central and northern Andhra Pradesh. It also predicted heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Telangana, South Chhattisgarh, and Odisha.
As Cyclone Montha continues to move northward, Bihar faces rising rainfall intensity and potential flooding. Authorities across the state monitor the situation closely and prepare to safeguard residents from the storm’s impact. The Cyclone Montha Bihar rainfall alert is being heeded to ensure public safety.
