Cuttack , Odisha : The district administration has imposed strict restrictions in Cuttack after escalating tensions between members of two local groups recently led to violent incidents in the city.
Authorities noted that people were misusing the internet to spread communal unrest and circulating false, provocative, and inflammatory messages on social media platforms. These actions created fears that public order and peace in the city could suffer severe disruption.
To restore normalcy and maintain law and order, the government has taken significant preventive measures. The Home Department issued an advisory announcing that it will suspend internet and social media services in Cuttack for 24 hours, starting from 7 PM today until 7 PM tomorrow.
All mobile service providers must restrict access to social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and other messaging services. Authorities have also instructed them to suspend mobile data, broadband, and dial-up internet services during this period.
The administration will enforce these restrictions specifically in the CMC (Cuttack Municipal Corporation) area and the CDA (Cuttack Development Authority) zone. Officials clarified that they implemented these temporary measures to prevent further unrest and ensure residents’ safety while keeping essential services operational in unaffected areas.
Authorities urged citizens to remain calm, cooperate with officials, and avoid sharing unverified information on digital platforms during the suspension.
