New Delhi : CP Radhakrishnan, the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) Vice Presidential candidate, officially filed his nomination papers today, marking the start of the NDA’s campaign for the upcoming Vice Presidential election. The nomination filing was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and several senior NDA leaders, reflecting strong alliance unity.
During the filing, key BJP leaders such as JP Nadda, Rajnath Singh, Chirag Paswan, Lalan Singh, Jitan Ram Manjhi, Kireen Rijiju, and Arjun Ram Meghwal were also present, underscoring the broad support Radhakrishnan enjoys within the NDA ranks. Sources said PM Modi was the first to formally propose Radhakrishnan’s nomination.
Radhakrishnan, born on October 20, 1957, in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu, currently serves as the Governor of Maharashtra, a position he assumed on July 31, 2024. Before this, he served as the Governor of Jharkhand for nearly one and a half years. During his tenure in Jharkhand, he was also entrusted with additional responsibilities as Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry.
The NDA’s decision to field Radhakrishnan as its Vice Presidential candidate was formally announced on Sunday, after a BJP parliamentary board meeting. All NDA ally parties have expressed support for his candidacy, emphasizing political cohesion ahead of the polls. Analysts say his experience as a governor in multiple states and his administrative record make him a consensus choice for the position.
Political observers note that Radhakrishnan’s nomination reflects the NDA’s strategic planning for key constitutional positions, with an emphasis on experience, administrative expertise, and party unity.
