New Delhi: On Thursday, the Congress repeated its claim of electoral manipulation and “Vote Chori.” Also, they said they will submit a memorandum with over 5 crore signatures to President Droupadi Murmu on November 8, asking for quick action. The Congress plans to submit these signatures in a bold move against ‘Vote Chori’.
K. C. Venugopal, General Secretary, AICC (Organisation), said citizens across the country collected over 5 crore signatures. This shows strong public anger and concern over duplicate voting, fake voter entries, and other issues in voter lists.
Talking about the party’s “Vote Chor Gaddi Chod” campaign, Venugopal said the signature drive gave five clear demands to the Election Commission of India. These include punishing officials involved in voter suppression and sharing voter lists with photos. Also, release all changes in voter lists before elections and set up a complaint system for wrongful deletions. Finally, fix a clear date for voter list changes.
Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, said the campaign highlights large-scale “vote chori.” Importantly, this fraud was done by the BJP with help from the Election Commission, attacking the people’s vote.
The Congress started its nationwide campaign on September 15, 2025, after state rallies from August 22 to September 7. Since then, citizens joined actively across districts, blocks, and villages. Party leaders, local heads, and professionals came together to fight electoral fraud and protect democracy.
In a meeting of General Secretaries and PCC Presidents, they decided to end the first phase with flag-off events at all State Headquarters on November 8. After that, Congress will officially present the signatures collected to President Murmu, in their effort to combat ‘Vote Chori’. This way, millions of citizens demand fairness and honesty in the election process.
Venugopal said, “Overall, this campaign is not only political—it is a people’s movement to restore trust in democracy. The Congress stands with the people to protect the soul of our democracy.”
