In a significant move to revitalise its base in Odisha, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has announced the appointment of presidents for 35 district and urban Congress committees, alongside deploying observers to spearhead a statewide signature campaign protesting alleged vote theft by the ruling BJP government.
These developments, effective immediately, were approved by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Bhakta Charan Das and issued by AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal, as part of a broader organisational rebuilding initiative.
The district president appointments stem from extensive surveys conducted by AICC observers across the state, aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots machinery.
This restructuring is expected to fortify the Odisha Congress’s organisational framework, enhancing its outreach and operational efficiency ahead of future electoral battles.
In tandem with these appointments, the PCC has launched a vigorous signature campaign under Das’s directive, targeting public outrage against the BJP’s purported vote-rigging tactics.
The drive, mandated by AICC guidelines, will run until October 12 and span districts, blocks, NACs, municipalities, and panchayats. PCC observers—newly appointed for each district—will coordinate with district convenors to tour their jurisdictions, raise awareness, and collect signatures from the public as a formal protest.
The collected signature lists must be submitted to the PCC office by October 12 and promptly forwarded to AICC headquarters. This multi-level mobilisation underscores the party’s commitment to electoral integrity and democratic accountability.
This dual initiative reflects Odisha Congress’s proactive stance in countering governance grievances while fortifying its internal leadership, poised to amplify its voice in the state’s political landscape.
