Bhubaneswar, Odisha : On the occasion of Independence Day 2025, the Chief Minister of Odisha emphasized the government’s commitment to social development and women empowerment as a key pillar of state progress. Highlighting the importance of providing every section of society with equal rights and opportunities, the CM reaffirmed that women empowerment is not merely a slogan or election promise, but a tangible goal being achieved.
Since taking office, the government has successfully enrolled over one crore women under the “Subhadra Yojana,” enabling them to receive financial support and start small-scale businesses that support their families. Many women have already received the third installment of ₹15,000, which has empowered them to invest in income-generating activities. This initiative has reached nearly 17 lakh women, creating a new benchmark in the country and fostering self-reliance.
The state budget has also allocated a dedicated ₹89,861 crore for women-specific programs, reflecting the government’s ongoing commitment to gender equality. Alongside economic empowerment, the CM emphasized the critical aspect of women’s safety. Odisha has adopted a “Zero Tolerance Policy” against violence toward women. Offenders, regardless of their influence or status, will face strict legal action, ensuring the safety and dignity of women in society.
The CM further instructed law enforcement agencies to take all necessary steps to prevent and address any acts of violence against women. These measures aim to create a safer, more equitable environment where women can thrive socially, economically, and personally.
Through these initiatives, the Odisha government is not only empowering women but also promoting inclusive social development, fostering community participation, and reinforcing the values of justice, safety, and equality. The focus on women empowerment and protection represents a significant step toward building a progressive, self-reliant, and socially conscious Odisha.
