Bhubaneswar, Odisha : In a significant political move ahead of the crucial Nuapada by-election, CM Majhi Nuapada Bypoll announcement has created a major buzz across Odisha’s political landscape. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi unveiled a mega development package for the district, describing it as a “bonanza for the people of Nuapada.” The declaration has sparked widespread political debates, public excitement, and speculation about its impact on the upcoming polls.

With the BJP, BJD, and Congress all eyeing the constituency, political observers see the Chief Minister’s announcement as a carefully crafted step to consolidate support. The CM unveiled the package during a massive gathering at Khariar, where thousands of locals turned up to hear him.

The development package includes a ₹350 crore allocation for new roads, bridges, and rural connectivity; a 200-bed super-speciality hospital to be established in Nuapada town; two new check dams and modernization of the Jonk canal to ensure reliable water supply for farmers; the announcement of a model degree college and the upgradation of 20 high schools into smart schools; and a special skill training program targeting 10,000 youth in the district.

Sector-wise Allocation:

  • Roads & Connectivity – ₹120 crore

  • Irrigation & Agriculture – ₹90 crore

  • Health Infrastructure – ₹60 crore

  • Education & Skill Development – ₹50 crore

  • Tribal & Women Welfare – ₹30 crore

The CM also expanded Mission Shakti groups with additional revolving funds, allocated a separate budget for tribal hostels, and introduced scholarships for 5,000 students from tribal communities.

Farmers expressed optimism about the irrigation projects, believing they could end decades of crop loss due to drought. Women’s groups welcomed the Mission Shakti boost, saying it would give them financial independence. Youngsters, however, remain cautious, noting that previous governments never fully delivered on job promises.

While the BJD termed the package as “election gimmickry,” the Congress called it a “political stunt” meant to woo voters with hollow promises.

Political analysts observed that “Majhi’s announcement is both symbolic and strategic. It shows BJP’s seriousness about Nuapada.”

With the by-election date fast approaching, the political battlefield in Nuapada is heating up. Whether Majhi’s bonanza package sways the electorate or not will be known only when ballots are counted, but for now, Nuapada stands at the center of Odisha’s political storm.
