Jharsuguda, Odisha : The CII Odisha Mining Conclave 2025 was held yesterday in Jharsuguda, marking the start of a two-day event that brought together over 250 leaders from industry, government, academia, and related sectors. In addition, the conclave provided a platform to discuss sustainable growth and innovation in mining. The CIL Odisha Mining Conclave is a key event for industry stakeholders.
The conference, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with the Government of Odisha, aims to build a strong, sustainable, and future ready mining sector in the state. Moreover, it seeks to foster collaboration among various stakeholders. Therefore, being part of the larger CIL Odisha Mining Conclave initiative helps drive this mission forward.

Shri Tankadhar Tripathy, Hon’ble Member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Jharsuguda, spoke about the district’s historical and strategic importance. He also reaffirmed Jharsuguda’s commitment to Vision 2036, focusing on skill development, sustainable practices, and entrepreneurship to support local communities. Therefore, these initiatives aim to maintain Odisha’s leading role in India’s industrial growth, which is showcased in the CIL Odisha Mining Conclave.

Shri Chavan Kunal Motiram, IAS, Collector and District Magistrate of Jharsuguda, highlighted the district’s rise as an industrial hub with strengths in aluminium, power, and manufacturing. Furthermore, he praised Jharsuguda’s strong infrastructure, skilled workforce, and sustainable growth projects, saying, “Today’s conclave is about shaping the future of mining combining progress with sustainability, innovation, and shared prosperity.” Moreover, the CIL Odisha Mining Conclave emphasizes these aspects.
Mr. G. Suresha, Vice Chairman of CII Odisha State Council, spoke about Odisha’s rich mineral resources, from iron ore to coal and manganese, and its key role in driving investment, creating jobs, and boosting regional growth. He added that the conclave aims to highlight opportunities, support green mining, and strengthen the mining ecosystem for a shared and forward-looking future.
Dr. Pradipta Mohanty, Past Chairman of CII Odisha State Council, stated that mining has long been central to Odisha’s economic growth, supporting industries like steel, aluminium, cement, and energy. Additionally, he noted that Odisha remains a key hub for sustainable mineral-driven growth as India moves toward self-reliance.
Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director of IIM Sambalpur, discussed two major trends reshaping mining: digitalization and decarbonization. He emphasized that while digital tools improve efficiency, it is also vital to maintain strong environmental and social standards. The CIL Odisha Mining Conclave addresses these emerging trends.

The conclave continued today with panel discussions, exhibitions, and networking sessions on innovation, technology, logistics, and green practices across the mining industry. Meanwhile, participants explored new opportunities and shared insights for the sector’s future.
