Bhubaneswar, Odisha : The Odisha Government is moving forward with its plan to strengthen agricultural education by proposing new Odisha Agriculture Colleges and allied sciences institutions across the state.
A meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Empowerment and Energy, Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, was held at Lok Seva Bhawan to review proposals for setting up these new colleges.
The discussion centered on the need for agriculture and allied sciences colleges to boost agricultural productivity, promote innovation, and develop sustainable and profitable farming systems. Officials emphasized that these colleges would contribute significantly to the state’s farming community and agri-based industries.
As per the government’s manifesto promise, the establishment of a second Agriculture University in Sambalpur was also a key highlight of the meeting. This move is expected to decentralize agricultural education and research while ensuring better outreach in western Odisha.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Principal Secretary (Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment), Shri Sanjeeb Kumar Mishra, Finance Department, Shri Suresh Kumar Basith, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development, and Prof. Pravat Kumar Raul, Vice Chancellor of OUAT, who contributed key insights on the proposal.
The establishment of the Central Agricultural University in Sambalpur aligns with the broader vision of modernizing Odisha’s agriculture, empowering farmers, and making farming a profitable and sustainable profession.
