Bhubaneswar, Odisha : The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a stern warning to students and schools alike — students of Class 10 and 12 who fail to maintain a minimum of 75% attendance will not be allowed to appear for their final board examinations. This directive applies to all CBSE-affiliated schools across the country.
Students falling short of the mandatory attendance threshold have been given a final window of the next five months to make up for the shortfall. CBSE has clarified that there is no room for manipulation or forgery in attendance records, and any school or student found guilty of such malpractices will face strict disciplinary action as per law.
The Board emphasized that appearing for the CBSE board exams is conditional under the “By-Laws,” which mandate 75% minimum attendance for both Class 10 and Class 12 students. However, in cases involving emergency medical treatment, participation in national/international sports events, or other exceptional circumstances, students may submit valid documentation (such as medical certificates or prescriptions) to seek up to 25% relaxation.
With only about two and a half months left before the final attendance tally is reviewed, CBSE has urged both students and parents to take the matter seriously and ensure regular attendance.
Moreover, CBSE has warned that surprise inspections will be conducted to audit attendance records in schools. If any discrepancies are found — such as forged entries, incomplete records, or signs of manipulation — action will be taken against the school authorities.
It has also been mandated that class teachers must sign off on daily attendance records, and schools must notify parents in writing if a student is found to be irregular.
Once the attendance data is submitted by the schools to CBSE, no modifications will be allowed under any circumstances. The Board has also released updated guidelines outlining these norms.
CBSE’s message is clear: discipline and integrity in attendance are now non-negotiable for students aiming to appear in board exams.
