New York: A tragic cargo plane crash in Kentucky claimed at least three lives and injured 11 after the UPS flight went down moments after taking off from Louisville International Airport on Tuesday evening.
Governor Andy Beshear confirmed the fatalities and warned that the toll could rise. The cargo plane crash in Kentucky involved a McDonnell Douglas MD-11 bound for Honolulu, which burst into flames shortly after takeoff, creating a massive fireball visible for miles.
Authorities ordered residents within a five-mile radius to shelter in place due to the presence of flammable materials. Emergency crews battled the blaze while investigators from the FAA and NTSB launched a joint probe into the cause of the crash.
The Louisville Metro Police expanded the shelter order north to the Ohio River, urging residents to avoid the area. Officials said it remains a “very dangerous situation” as investigators assess the wreckage and possible fuel explosions.
The NTSB will lead the investigation and provide updates as details emerge about what caused the tragic accident in Louisville, Kentucky.
