New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a two-day BJP MPs workshop at the GMC Balayogi Auditorium in the Parliament complex on Sunday, ahead of the September 9 Vice-Presidential elections.
Sharing his experience on X, PM Modi said, “Attended the ‘Sansad Karyashala’ in Delhi. MP colleagues from all over India and senior leaders exchanged valuable perspectives on diverse issues.” He added, “Platforms like ‘Sansad Karyashala’ are important because they are great forums to learn from each other and deliberate on how we can serve people even better.”
The workshop included a mock poll exercise to train MPs on the vote-casting process and featured presentations on electoral procedures. The BJP-led NDA has intensified preparations for the upcoming election, ensuring MPs from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are fully briefed.
The 2025 Vice-Presidential election is seen as a ‘South vs South’ contest, with NDA nominee C.P. Radhakrishnan from Tamil Nadu, who has long associations with the RSS, competing against opposition candidate B. Sudarshan Reddy from Telangana, a former Supreme Court judge.
The Vice President is elected by an electoral college of 782 members from both houses of Parliament, using a secret ballot and proportional representation with a single transferable vote. Reddy was declared the united Opposition candidate on August 19, described by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge as an “ideological battle” emphasizing pro-poor and democratic values.
Radhakrishnan’s candidacy was announced by PM Modi and BJP President J.P. Nadda on August 12. The election follows the mid-term resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar, who stepped down citing medical reasons. The Vice President also serves as ex officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, making the post politically significant.
The two-day workshop reflects BJP’s strategic push to ensure maximum preparedness and cohesion among MPs as the NDA aims to secure a decisive mandate in the upcoming Vice-Presidential poll.
