Patna : Tension gripped Begusarai district in Bihar on Thursday as supporters of two parties clashed near the Teghra subdivision office during the nomination process for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. The BJP Cong clash in Begusarai heightened election tensions across the district.
The confrontation erupted when Congress Youth State President Garibdas and Bihar Sports Minister and NDA candidate Surendra Mehta arrived at the Bachhwara Assembly constituency office with their respective supporters to file nominations.
What began as sloganeering quickly escalated into a physical altercation, with both sides exchanging kicks and punches, highlighting the severity of the BJP Cong clash in Begusarai.
Police intervened and charged with lathis to disperse the crowd after a brief but intense scuffle. Several people suffered minor injuries, and the crowd created chaos in the area for some time before authorities restored order.
Earlier on Wednesday evening, two factions of the Congress party clashed at Patna airport.
In a separate incident, workers from two factions of the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) led by Mukesh Sahani fought during a press conference at Hotel Maurya in Patna. Workers exchanged blows and shouted slogans over disagreements about ticket distribution.
Reports indicate that Mukesh Sahani demanded 60 seats from the Grand Alliance, which the alliance reduced to 30 and then to 18 seats offered by the RJD. He eventually accepted the 18 seats, but Congress fielding candidates in several of Sahani’s preferred constituencies triggered outrage among his supporters.
As tensions escalated, authorities cancelled the press conference. Mukesh Sahani will address the media at 4 p.m., where he may announce a major political decision.
The twin incidents—one involving rival party workers in Begusarai and the other internal fighting within VIP in Patna—have raised concerns over law and order during Bihar’s nomination phase. Meanwhile, the BJP Cong clash in Begusarai has significantly intensified the political atmosphere. Authorities increased vigilance around nomination centres to prevent further clashes.
