Kolkata : BJP Bengal 2026 polls are set to see a major organizational push as the state unit has begun deploying “vistaraks” (full-time workers) across all 294 constituencies in West Bengal.
If the process proceeds as planned, the party will complete the deployment of “vistaraks” in all assembly constituencies by the end of this month. After receiving initial training, these workers will start fieldwork in their respective constituencies, gathering firsthand information on political and social conditions.
“Based on the feedback from the ‘vistaraks,’ the state leadership will finalise poll and campaign strategies for each constituency. The initial list of around 500 potential candidates is ready for scrutiny. From these, the party will shortlist the 294 candidates for whom ‘vistaraks’ will be deployed,” a state committee member said.
Among the 500 candidates, some have prior experience as “vistaraks,” while others are new entrants. The party will apply eligibility criteria to select the final workers for each constituency. Candidates must be registered voters in their constituencies and possess deep knowledge of the social, geographical, and political landscape, including caste and religion-wise population data.
The state committee member added that the party will give preference to graduates with substantial knowledge of its history. Candidates with a proven record as “vistaraks” will also receive priority.
According to state BJP vice-president Rathindranath Bose, the party has appointed “vistaraks” in previous elections. However, this time, the shortlisting process is more detailed, prompting the early start of deployment.
Bose further explained that the central leadership wants to maximize the effectiveness of the “vistaraks.” Officials are paying extra attention to shortlisting to strengthen the party’s grassroots network. This strategy ensures a well-coordinated campaign and enhances the party’s readiness for the 2026 assembly elections in West Bengal.
