New Delhi : Odisha took centre stage in the national capital today as Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MPs staged a powerful protest outside the Parliament, braving heavy rains to raise concerns over growing insecurity for women and children in the state under the BJP-led government.
Holding placards and shouting slogans near the Gandhi statue, the MPs highlighted the tragic death of a female student at FM College, demanding a judicial probe into the incident. They accused the Odisha government of remaining in a “Kumbhakarna-like slumber” despite a spate of crimes against women.
“The double-engine government has failed to deliver justice to women. From Balasore to Balangir, women in Odisha are unsafe, and the administration is asleep,” said BJD MP Dr. Sasmit Patra, urging the Centre to take note of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
MP Sarmistha Sethi echoed similar sentiments, stating that justice and safety for Odisha’s women must become a national priority. “The cry for justice will not stop at the village level—it will reach the doors of Delhi,” she said.
BJD MP Sulata Deo went a step further, calling for an end to the state government’s apathy. “This so-called double-engine government is driving Odisha into shame at record speed,” she remarked. “Even the Supreme Court has called the Balangir case a matter of disgrace.”
The protest underscored BJD’s demand for immediate accountability and protection for women in Odisha, with MPs vowing to continue their agitation until justice is delivered.
