Bhubaneswar, Odisha : Laxmisagar police have arrested a couple for allegedly duping a businessman of ₹2.15 crore in a property scam and later attempting to kill him when he demanded his money back.
The accused Mohammad Vakil (49) and his wife Sahadutun Nisha (38) of Shabarsahi had mortgaged their house to a bank and failed to repay a loan of over ₹1 crore, putting the property at risk of auction. Posing as sellers, they approached furniture trader Ravindra Sahu, offering to sell him the house.
Following negotiations, both parties agreed on a price of ₹2.15 crore. Ravindra reportedly paid ₹1,66,50,000 through RTGS in instalments and the remaining amount in cash. A sale agreement was signed, but the couple allegedly neither handed over the house nor refunded the money. Instead, they allegedly threatened the buyer.
When Ravindra moved court and obtained a stay order on the sale, the accused tore up the legal notice on August 4. An argument followed, during which the couple allegedly attacked him with iron rods and attempted to slit his throat with a sharp weapon.
Ravindra managed to escape and lodged a complaint with Laxmisagar police. Officers have seized the weapon used in the attack and taken the couple into custody.
