Jharsuguda, Odisha : The foundation stone for an Astro Turf hockey ground in Jharsuguda was laid today at H. Kantapali. Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari, as the chief guest, inaugurated the project and emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening sports infrastructure in the region.
The Astro Turf project, estimated at over ₹8 crore, is targeted to be completed within the next six months. Minister Pujari said that Jharsuguda would be developed into a sports hub, providing modern facilities to nurture players who could represent Odisha and India at national and international levels.
Bargarh MP Pradeep Purohit, Jharsuguda MLA Tankadhar Tripathy, and District Collector Kunal Motiram Chavan also attended the event. Addressing the gathering, the leaders highlighted that funds will never be a barrier for Jharsuguda’s sports development.
The state government also plans to transform the Jharsuguda Malimunda cricket stadium into an international facility, with DPR already prepared and tenders awarded to a foreign company. Additionally, stadiums in every block of Jharsuguda will be constructed with budgets ranging from ₹5 to ₹15 crore.
Minister Pujari assured that by February next year, the Astro Turf hockey ground will be ready, enabling Jharsuguda to emerge as a sports hub of Odisha. The event was also attended by Odisha Hockey Vice President Jeevan Mohanty, Jharsuguda Sports Association Secretary Tapas Ray Choudhury, Prajwal Patel, and other officials.
