Seoul : The APEC summit South Korea will see the business community host global tycoons to discuss trade, investments, and strategies for regional economic growth. Moreover, the government and South Korean business leaders are actively inviting participants to join business events on the sidelines of the summit, industry sources said on Sunday.
Co-hosted by the industry ministry and the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), the APEC CEO Summit will run from October 28 to 31 in Gyeongju, about 275 kilometers southeast of Seoul. As a result, 1,700 participants from APEC member economies and global companies will gather, Yonhap News Agency reported.
In addition, market watchers are focusing on Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia Corp., who reacted positively to an invitation from SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, also head of KCCI. Huang is expected to hold a special session on October 31 during a separate AI industry event.
If Huang travels to South Korea next month, he may meet APEC member leaders and visit production lines of Samsung Electronics Co. and SK hynix Inc., two major tech companies. Nvidia has emerged as a key partner for countries and businesses amid the global AI boom.
Meanwhile, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman may attend. OpenAI operates ChatGPT, one of the world’s leading generative AI platforms, and recently launched its Seoul office—its 12th worldwide and third in Asia.
South Korea is also reaching out to Chinese business leaders, including Alibaba CEO Eddie Wu, since Beijing will host the APEC meeting next year. Therefore, the summit aims to foster collaboration and dialogue among major economies.
Moreover, the summit offers global tech and business leaders opportunities to explore partnerships and discuss innovations shaping trade, AI, and investment in the Asia-Pacific region. With major players attending, the APEC summit South Korea promises to be a key platform for business diplomacy and economic strategy.
