New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the Andhra bus fire in Kurnool, which claimed 11 lives, and announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased. The injured will receive Rs 50,000 each.
The tragic incident occurred early Friday when a Volvo bus traveling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru hit a two-wheeler near Ullindakonda in Kurnool district and caught fire, leaving around 40 passengers on board. Nineteen passengers managed to escape with minor injuries by breaking the emergency exit, but the bus was completely gutted.
PM Modi’s Office posted on social media platform X:
“Extremely saddened by the loss of lives due to a mishap in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. My thoughts are with the affected families. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan also expressed deep grief over the Andhra bus fire, calling it “deeply unfortunate” and extending condolences to the bereaved families.
President Murmu said, “The loss of lives in a tragic bus fire accident in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh is deeply unfortunate. I extend my heartfelt condolences and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.”
Vice President Radhakrishnan added,
“Deeply saddened by the tragic bus fire accident in Kurnool district. Heartfelt condolences to the families and prayers for the injured.”
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock:
“I am devastated by the bus fire accident near Chinna Tekur village. The government will provide full support to the injured and affected families.”
State Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy rushed to the site, saying,
“The loss of so many lives is truly heartbreaking.” He directed officials to shift the injured to Kurnool Hospital for proper care and oversee relief operations at the site.
