Bhubaneswar, Odisha : In a landmark step towards advancing mental healthcare, the Department of Psychiatry at AIIMS Bhubaneswar has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Centre for Neuromodulation Services, bringing new hope to patients struggling with drug-resistant and difficult-to-treat psychiatric disorders.

The new centre, launched by Dr. Ashutosh Biswas, Executive Director, AIIMS Bhubaneswar, will provide cutting-edge, non-invasive brain stimulation therapies designed to ensure faster recovery and better treatment outcomes. “The launch of this Centre for Neuromodulation is a milestone achievement for AIIMS Bhubaneswar. It aligns with our mission to deliver world-class healthcare and advanced medical technologies to the people of Odisha and beyond,” Dr. Biswas stated during the inauguration.

Equipped with advanced neuromodulation technologies such as Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS), Ultra-brief Pulse Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), and Transcranial Electrical Stimulation (TES), the facility will offer precise, targeted treatments for psychiatric and neuropsychiatric conditions. By focusing only on affected brain circuits, these therapies provide a safer and more acceptable alternative to conventional methods, significantly reducing side effects while improving patient recovery rates.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of eminent faculty and officials, including Dr. Prashant R. Mohapatra, Dean, Dr. Dillip Kumar Parida, Medical Superintendent, Lt. Col. Abhijit Sarkar, DDA, Dr. Biswa Ranjan Mishra, Head of Psychiatry, and faculty members Dr. S. K. Padhy, Dr. Debadatta Mohapatra, Dr. Shree Mishra, Dr. Arpit Parmar, and Dr. Ambika Sundas.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Biswa Ranjan Mishra emphasized, “This facility will be a beacon of hope, offering advanced treatment options to patients who have struggled to find relief through traditional therapies.”

The Centre for Neuromodulation Services at AIIMS Bhubaneswar is now fully operational and is expected to play a crucial role in both clinical care and research. With its focus on innovative therapies and patient-centered care, the centre is set to enhance the quality of psychiatric treatment available across eastern India.
