Bhubaneswar, Odisha : In a major development, Berhampur Police picked up BJD District President and Former MLA Bikram Panda for questioning in the widely discussed Advocate Pitabas Panda murder case.
Tension erupted in Berhampur city following police action in connection with the murder of Advocate Pitabas Panda.
A special police team reached Bikram Panda’s house and took him into custody for interrogation. This move triggered strong reactions among his supporters, who gathered in large numbers outside his residence, protesting the manner in which police picked Mr. Panda.
The Bar Association condemned the incident, and several BJD leaders, party workers, family members, and lawyers rushed to the Baidhyanathpur Police Station, where police reportedly took Bikram Panda.
Ganjam Bar Association President Manoj Pattnaik also reached the police station and spoke with Berhampur SP over the phone regarding the matter.
According to reports, the SP assured that he will hold a discussion with Bikram Panda’s family members and lawyers today to clarify the situation.
The incident has created a political and legal uproar across Berhampur, with both the legal community and BJD supporters demanding transparency in the investigation.
Notable Advocate Panda was shot dead by miscreants near his home on 6th October 2025. Detained BJD leader Bikram Panda and the late Pitabas Panda knew each other well. Bikram Panda attended the death ritual ceremony of the late Pitabas and expressed deep sorrow over his demise.
In connection with the Pitabas Panda murder case, Bikram’s link has become a widely discussed topic in State politics.
Notably, police nabbed 8 suspects from out of state and interrogated more than 30 people in this connection. Among the 8 accused, police picked 4 suspects in Delhi and Bihar, as investigators suspect a supari killer behind the murder.
