Talcher, Odisha : A tragic accident at the Hingula Coal Mine has once again raised serious safety concerns among local residents. Rajat Nayak (33), a truck owner and driver from Sakisinga village, died when another truck collided with his vehicle on the Hingula Coal Corridor, under Gopalprasad Police Station. The collision has sparked outrage in the community, highlighting longstanding concerns about traffic safety near the mine.
Immediately after the accident, locals rushed Rajat to the district hospital in critical condition. Despite their efforts, doctors declared him dead upon arrival. Angered and heartbroken, over 30 residents carried his body from the hospital and staged a road blockade near the Hingula Coal Mine, demanding immediate compensation for the family and action to prevent similar accidents in the future.
The police confirmed that no one has filed a written complaint yet, but they continue to monitor the protest closely to maintain law and order. Community members emphasized that proper safety measures and strict traffic regulations along the mine corridor could have prevented such incidents.
Local leaders and residents warned that they will escalate their protests if the authorities fail to address their demands. The tragic accident has reignited debates about mine safety, road infrastructure, and accident prevention protocols, calling for urgent attention from both mining officials and local administration.
