Bhubaneswar, Odisha : The fertilizer supply situation in Odisha has been accelerated under the instructions of the Hon’ble Chief Minister to ensure uninterrupted availability during the Kharif 2025 season. The Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment has reassured cultivators that adequate stocks are in place and urged them not to panic due to misleading claims of scarcity.

For the Kharif plan, the State has targeted 58.50 lakh hectares of cultivation—including 34.94 lakh hectares of paddy and 23.56 lakh hectares of non-paddy crops. Based on this, Odisha prepared a demand plan of 10 lakh MT of fertilizers and submitted it to the Centre. The Union Government allocated 9.55 lakh MT of straight and complex fertilizers.

By the end of August, the State had already received 8.10 lakh MT, taking total availability to 11.04 lakh MT. Of this, 8.46 lakh MT (Urea: 3.96 lakh MT; DAP: 1.61 lakh MT; MOP: 0.41 lakh MT; SSP: 0.21 lakh MT; NP/NPK/NPKS: 2.25 lakh MT) has been sold to farmers, while 2.56 lakh MT remains in stock at district levels. Additionally, 11,692 MT of urea is in transit and expected to reach PACS and LAMPCS within two days.

Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo has been personally monitoring the supply situation. Fertilizer manufacturers have been instructed to provide adequate stocks to MARKFED, while MARKFED is ensuring timely distribution to LAMPCS and PACS based on crop requirements. Compared to 7.03 lakh MT sold during the same period in 2024, this year’s supply marks a significant improvement.

To prevent exploitation, the State Government has intensified its crackdown on black market and fake fertilizers. So far, 4,546 outlets have been inspected, 1,202 retailers served show-cause notices, 30 shops closed, and 62 dealer licenses suspended or cancelled. Fertilizer stock has also been seized from six dealers for violations under the Fertilizer Control Order, 1985.

The Government has also directed IFFCO to stop the compulsory tagging of nano fertilizers, ensuring that farmers have the freedom to choose the grade of fertilizer most suitable for their crops.

Principal Secretary Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee is regularly reviewing the situation, coordinating with the Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, and advising companies for timely supplies.

With strong monitoring, improved logistics, and strict enforcement, the Odisha Government is determined to guarantee timely, affordable, and quality fertilizer supply to all farmers during Kharif 2025.
